About Us

In 2017, two congregations of the United Methodist Church, one in Wadena and one in Deer Creek, merged to become Joyful Spirit United Methodist Church. At this writing, a new building is going up on State Highway 29 between the two towns. Our congregation seeks to bring the joy of Christ to our communities.

Our congregation has a family feel and a heart for mission. For example, we support the ecumenical Backpack Program which provides weekend food for children in need. We look forward to the resumption of our Sunday School Program called “Young Disciples”, our youth program, and our quilting program called “Methodist Cut-ups”.

Our worship service blends traditional with contemporary components. Besides congregational hymns, music may include: vocal solos, instrumentals, Special music by the Praise Team, and music videos. Instruments include piano, keyboard, psaltery, percussion instruments, and handbells.

The First Congregational United Church of Christ (UCC) in Wadena graciously offered us to use their space until our new building is ready. Besides the church office, we use a music rehearsal room/quilting room, fellowship hall, and meeting room. On the first Sunday of the month, we worship and celebrate Holy Communion in their sanctuary. We are grateful for the generosity of the UCC church during this interim, but we are looking forward to a new space in which to welcome the community. For example, we have hosted the Boy Scouts, quilters, and local Minnesota Extension agents (teaching members of the community how to cook healthy meals for their families).

As our t-shirts say, “I saw God at work and I joined Him.” We invite you to join us during this exciting time of growth, numerically and spiritually. Discover with us what God has in mind. Come with a joyful spirit!
